Manchester United is set to launch an official YouTube channel which has been in wait for over 13 years.
The Red Devils are the only Premier League team without an official channel and one of the biggest clubs in world football not to adopt the video platform.
But, it is not as if the soccer superstars are unaccustomed to social networks. Manchester United are one of the top 100 most followed Instagram accounts, as well as one of the most liked Facebook pages.
YouTube has more than 1.3 billion users and is the world’s second largest search engine. According to the Guardian, Tomas Grace, YouTube’s head of sport for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “Amazingly, even without an official football channel it is the most viewed club in the world on YouTube.”
YouTube also told the Guardian, “that since the start of this football season views of Manchester United video content had risen 60% year on year to almost 850m.”
FC Barcelona is currently the biggest team on YouTube, with Man City the biggest UK team. YouTube continues to attract new audiences and is one of the most popular websites on the planet for consuming video content. Manchester United can expect to capture a similar demographic as other footballing giants on YouTube, but ultimately will be playing catch-up.
